Today is just one of those nights when you want to cry. Stress. Emotions. Overwhelmed. Exhausted.
I probably should have a glass of wine but my throat is scratchy and my head hurts and I know I should just go to sleep, but I had to make some chaos of my to-do list…which tonight resulted in dividing my lists in 2 different ones so I don’t have to look at it all at once.
Can we say ARGGHHHHH. I need a good run or sweat in the gym but not sure that is going to happen…hoping tomorrow but I just realized I forgot to line up help for the soccer carpool.
The highlight of the day was wedding cake tasting. If it weren’t for the fact that lunch had consisted of an iced coffee and dark chocolate M&Ms my stomach might have been a little more forgiving of all the sugar, especially since I have been cutting back so this was like sugar overload!!! Anyway all of it was delicious….we decided on almond cake and vanilla icing for the top, carmel cake with chocolate icing for the middle (my favorite), and chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting for the bottom. MB was in heaven…I totally lost count of how much cake she had..but thankfully we sent the tasting tray back to the kitchen with half of the icing bowls still full!!! Between the sugar rush and the design discussion my head was spinning- another 2 hours of decisions.
I swear every time we meet I feel so lucky to have my wedding planner…I seriously don’t know what I would do without her. There are so many things that I count on her for…including swinging by and picking up the reprinted envelope for my invitations so I didn’t have to make that extra trip. I really couldn’t imagine doing that without her.
After I wrote about the highlight I don’t want to complain about the lowlights…sometimes it is better just to not try and reason with those who are unreasonable.
Now I just hope I can kick whatever bug MB brought into the house because I can feel it attacking and this is no time to be sick….
This afternoon we headed over to Sun Valley lodge and went into the basement to the bowling alley.
Old school lanes. No computers. No flashy lights. We had to keep score by hand.
As Mb sat there recording our scores and doing the math after each frame it hit me. We have lost so much just day to day learning. Mb had no idea she was working on her addition. She was just playing and keeping score, while I was smiling at her working out the double digit math. So great.
Fun history learning too today. We went to this great Starbucks that had tree trunk chairs and an old bank vault. Mb and I started talking about banks in the old days and life before credit cards- she couldn’t believe it. Yep we talked about trading and bank robbers…she couldn’t believe there were famous bank robbers and said if she were alive back then she would keep her money at home
Followed that up by coming home and snuggling on the couch with our iPads playing a game of monopoly over wifi. Buying properties, making trades. Family game night without the board and on the road… No banker but still a 90 min game.
What a great day of memories!
It was our family fun night for school at the ballpark.
The cubbies didn’t pull out a win but what fun.
We have such a great community and friends.
Our group took up about 10 rows. Siting next to MBs teacher and right behind her principal. Surrounded by her friends and ours.
We laughed, cheered, ate, smiled, and just had a great Friday night with our family and friends.
Ended the night singing song after song on the radio on the drive home.
Moving West is a big decision I will never regret….this is so our home!
dance girls dance!
This week was full of soccer and smiles!
Ahhh I love the water and sun.
We went this weekend to visit friends in Havasu.
Today we went out on the boat. Gorgeous sunny day, cool calm waters. We had a picnic, relaxed, and just hung out. Then we wrapped up the boat trip with some tubing. The screams and giggles as we bounced like popcorn on the waves, priceless. It was a perfect Saturday.
After 2 weekends of outdoor fun I’m finally getting my summer tan…yep right at the end of summer.
It’s back to school time.
The last few years I’ve ended the summer and welcomed Maddie home with a back to school pool party and ice cream social.
After bidding on a local pools birthday party at our fall school fundraiser I decided to take it easy this year and do it there. They bought the decorations, handled the cake, supplied the pizza, icees, and popcorn. All we did is show up with the favors. They also have 2 young guys that played in the pool throwing the football, tossing the kids in the pool and doing all that exhausting stuff that Tb usually has to do. It is going to be hard to bring it back home next year.
Mb had a coed guest list for the first time and she picked friends from her past few years at school. The kids were all wonderful and had lots of fun. It was a great way to break into the new school year.
Since I only had one party task I got crafty with chalkboard contact paper and back to school goodies!
What a weekend is right.
Saturday was a blur but in a good way.
We had a neighborhood pancake breakfast and egg hunt. That minus doing the egg hunt 20 min before scheduled turned out just fine.
Then it was on to a chess game where a screw up had Mb playing a champ. But she held her own for a good 20 min.
Next stop was a soccer game. They lost but as goalie Mb made some great saves!
Home again. Quick nap watching Florida disappoint by losing their lead. Then Tb and I headed out for a massage followed by a quick bite and a beer to close out our time, back home for family movie night.
Are you tired? We were and all were asleep by 9pm
Today was a little more relaxing. Slept in missing church but we all needed the sleep. Then off to breakfast and grocery shopping before MB headed off to super chess club.
TB and I got in a good hard 2 mile run where I realized how much my training has really been slacking. Then time to pick up the girls and have some playdate fun while TB and I tackled our weekend chores.
Hope everyone else had a great weekend! I’m looking forward to a slower paced week ahead….I hope!
We have so much on our plates right now and are going 70 mph in life….but we make sure to take time out and enjoy each other and where we live!
This morning was one of those moments. We got a little early for a Sunday and took a break from church so we could get in a trail ride. MB loves horses and is getting to be a great rider. It was a quiet day on the mountain and the weather was just perfect. I enjoyed every minute of it! Our little chatterbox kept the guides ear the entire time, but he rolled with it 🙂
I have to say some of the best looking horses we have seen on our rides. Cave Creek Trail Riders…great operation!
So happy to be here..even brought carrots to feed them!
Sun, family, and fun
So we are just pulling in from picking up MB from camp and me from my run.
We see our neighbors out on the skateboard and so MB runs out to say hi.
Not more than 10 min later we had 3 more neighbors join us and were having a regular block party play-date.
There were skateboards, scooters, hula hoops, jump ropes, double dutch, chalk bubbles…and even some gingerbread cookie decorating.
9 kids in total, 1 dad, 2-4 mom’s depending on who was taking a shower…..and a full 2 hours outside running out the rest of the sugar that was in their system.
I never grew up in a neighborhood like this.
While I have no complaints about my childhood…we had the beach instead of neighbors…I have gotten used to the ‘burbs and am enjoying it. Kids playing in the streets…having so many friends around as easy play-dates, really doesn’t get much better than this.
Oh but wait it does….as I sat outside I realized that this time last year I was rotating inside a mini-van while the kids sled in -10 degree weather. We wouldn’t be outside chilling like this.
So 2 points for the neighborhood and 2 points for warmer weather.
Now off to enjoy the zoo-lights without freezing my butt!
I hate leaving my family. No matter what fun might lie ahead I always miss them. You might have a night or a part of time when you enjoy being a girl on the town, but at the end of the night it is always so much better to be under your own roof when the family all there with you.
However, without going away I wouldn’t feel so much love as I do right now.
I am sitting in a meeting and my phone vibrates. I look down and there is a picture of my two lovebugs beaming at the camera. All smiles which makes me smile. Then I notice the splash pad behind them and a backdrop I don’t recognize. They are someplace new….I of course want all the details but I am in a meeting.
I come back to my hotel and see some Facebook updates from TB…here they are:
?”I think this might be a good day to smell the breeze, look around, and just have some fun.” 🙂
“I want surf champion for dinner; I want surf champion”. Took me a minute to realize she meant surf and turf. I corrected her, and she was all, “Yeah, THAT’S what I mean”.
Check that. I guess it was “surf boarding champion” she was saying. She just reverted back to that, followed by PLEASE I want some lobster.
I just smile and my heart melts. I wish I was there with them…but then I know it would have been just a normal Monday night. They are making their own memories, they are doing what best buddies too.
Sometimes going away is a good thing…
