Potty Training…it is a family affair

Potty training is not for the weak and I realize the more people in your family, the more training you have to do.

It takes a village and in our house we have a small village working on the potty training.

SB was using the potty early around 17 months…and she has continued to use it up and down. We would go weeks with great success and then we would have a trip, or some other excuse. It was so hard for us (not her) to be consistent with our crazy lives.

But this weekend we finally decided to buckle down and get everyone involved.

In all our little spurts of success we had the potty watch, the sticker chart, the M&Ms, the jelly beans…it all worked…but ultimately what seems to have made the impact was having everyone involved.

We have a rotation when we will all home of her takes her…and the week is almost over and we haven’t had any accidents. Crazy what a little bit of stability can do.

The only negative impact is whenever one of us goes to the bathroom little SB goes and sits with you watching you with her back against the wall. I guess she figures that is the normal thing to do.

Now to see if I really can cancel my honest diaper subscription….maybe after the Halloween prints arrive 🙂

Trying again

I have thought about starting to blog so many times over the past year…but life has just been, well life.

We have a busy busy toddler who brings us so much happiness and not much rest.

We have an amazing middle school student who makes us proud on a daily basis.

We have demanding jobs both inside and outside of the house.

But I still want to keep a journal of our family.

I want to have this as a place to look back on our memories. Words to go with the pictures.

So many great moments. So many great stories.

So today I attempt to start again. To try to capture life. To take a few moments each day to write it down. Today is begins….again….

Twinkling lights

My favorite thing about the holidays (after down time with the family) are the twinkling lights!

This year we made the point of doing a few night runs, some with hot cocoa and some without, to check out the lights!

The oohhh and ahhhs were abundant!

Going to miss when all the lights and magic disappear for another year.

We are back!!!

Well it has been a little while since I have visited the old blog but as we get ready to turn our family of 4 into a family of 5 I am finding my voice again.

While the blog has been quiet life sure hasn’t been.

We now have a darling little 4th grader who is a bit of a tomboy, loves her futbol & football, Downtown Abbey, claims to be the #1 Colts fan in the world, and is sweet as sugar with a little sass.IMG_4823

TB and I celebrated our first year of marriage and it was just as wonderful as it should have been. To keep it exciting we jumped right into expanding our family (1st dr apt two days after our wedding!) and are now a little more than 4 weeks away from meeting baby B.

You can catch up on the latest here at AZBabyMNOven. This has truly been such an amazing experience, each day I really do need to pinch myself that this is happening. And this gift from the Ks has come with such fun extra bonuses…like extra visits with their family both here and while our paths crossed in OH. We only had one miss when MK and I passed each other in MN as one plane landed and the other one took off!

We spent the summer traveling, relaxing, watching lots of World Cup, and preparing for Baby B. Baby B prep required a full remodel of MB and my office but it is coming together and I just love it. A fun and modern room for a fun and modern baby!

In living with our theme, lovebug adventures….TB is starting another adventure at work and so it seemed just fitting that we spent our summer getaway in San Fran where the city just seeps innovation. I really cherish these little time-outs we take….no schedule, lots of great food, good wines, and being together. We stayed at the St. Regis San Francisco which is such a wonderful hotel…I absolutely love it and can’t wait for our return trip!

That about does it…not much for just a few months uh 🙂

Now we are washing baby clothes, finishing up the last touches on the nursery and reviewing the newborn checklist to make sure we have everything we need!

Balance. I really don’t like that word. It has so much pressure in it.

I don’t balance. I juggle. The goal is not to drop a ball…or if you do pick it up quickly and start juggling again.

Juggling is success for me. Juggling is achievable. Balance in a minute to minute basis is not.

Today was a good juggling day.

Up before the sun and watching the sunrise from my office. Getting major projects over the last hurdle. Nailing a major presentation. Then with literally a minute to spare being able to walk out the office door, hit the Chick-fil-A drive through and make it to MB’s school for lunch.

A lunch that she had asked for. A lunch that I had said I would try but that I wasn’t sure I could do it this week. But I did and the reward was sweet.

I was sitting outside enjoying the 80 degrees and sun and from behind me I get a huge bear hug. Big big hug. We then decided to stay outside just the 2 of us and talked about my morning and hers. We practiced for the history quiz that afternoon and then it was time to go. I got a few more hugs and then as I am halfway to the gate she comes running up with her bestie for one more hug and so I could give her bestie a hug too. I know these days of hugging mom at school are precious and probably won’t be around much longer- but today she was in heaven and so was I.

Today I was a juggling master. Tomorrow is a new challenge.

Looking back at the week

I love looking back our our photo steam photos…always good for a smile.

Last Sunday…Mommy and me girly day!!!

We still haven’t figured out the bus situation so drive to school we do!

Parent Orientation and a new behavior system for the school…quite a few choices don’t you think??

Soccer nights can be so pretty in AZ

Indy-baby is the best little snuggler!

Score one for mom, saw this while traveling. Thought it would be big. Bought it. 3 days later it is on the Today show saying that 1Million were sold just this week….glad I was finally ahead of one trend!

Football is near!!!!

Camping for 9

We had our first tent camping (well any real camping) for my Brownie Troop this weekend.

This was a jam packed weekend so I have to admit I wasn’t too thrilled at this being in the mix.

However once we actually got there that all changed.

MB was so excited as we packed our bags and put together our mess kits.

We arrived and setup camp…the older girls had set up a couple tents for us so it wasn’t to hard to get settled though seeing the campsite was on gravel was a little unnerving.

After 30min of card games the girls were called over by their middle and high school PAs to begin the activities. Now for the next 5 hours us moms sat in the shade and marveled that the girls never came back over to see us, there were no arguments, no issues. We joined them for cooking eclairs- wow impressive what you can make on an open fire :P….and got little glimpses of them learning knife safety, how to pitch a tent, cooking, swap making, etc.

After 5 hours they came back to camp for about 30-45 min before dinner…the girls all went into their tents/shades and played UNO.

Then it was time for Tacos in a bag. Not a single complaint about food….group think we decided :). One girl said it was the best thing she had in 3 years…which of course I passed on to her mom the next morning.

Dinner, clean-up then time for campfire songs…the giggles and laughter was infectious. Smores sealed up the night and you can’t do anything to screw that up. Back to bed and with the normal noise and settling down we settled in for the night.

At some point across the tent MB exclaimed “mommy I love you”….which I took for thank you for a wonderful day and for being the one closest to the tent opening. I had to laugh when I saw the girls had set up my sleeping bag…sweet or strategy for positioning. I dread the day when she thinks saying I love you where everyone can hear is not cool…I relish it now!!!

I have no clue how much sleep I actually got…but at one point MB woke up and was cold and I told her to come get in the sleeping bag with me…seriously I couldn’t think of anything better than being snuggled in close with that sweet thing. She swears she didn’t sleep but I can attest to the fact that she was zonked out for the rest of the night minus when I leaned on her hair….our other tent mate had to get dressed warmer in the middle of the night which I had prepared for and then it was sunrise and the night was over.

We of course had to race home to quickly shower and become presentable for the soccer end of year party. Fun to see all the smiling faces and I loved that MB just wanted to dribble the ball around- she really does have a love for the game.

While the moms talked my little one came over to show me something on the jungle gym…I have to say it was sweet to walk across the grass and have her show me how she could climb to the top – so proud and quite happy to have her mommy there to share it with. I spent the next 15min with the girls on the swing set loving that just as much as sitting with the moms…never forgot that watching from afar sometimes is just not the same.

This weekend was totally her weekend — everything on the agenda was hers and actually sitting back and watching her might have been the best thing I needed tooo.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!!!
