First soccer practice of the season

Well we have another hit. This girl just loves it all. We are going to have to start being pickier…I think we have hit our limit on activities.

So we headed out this weekend for MB’s first soccer practice and game of the season. It was 110 degrees and hot. TB and I managed to sweat more than you can imagine and end up with our first burn of the season, yes right when summer is over.

We love the soccer club though. The coach was great, really worked the kids with drills and fundamentals. Plenty of water breaks. Which were so cute. TB would hold up the towel and I would hold up the water- MB would run to us and grab the towel as she ran around our chairs and come up on the other side to get the water. She was in full spirit of the game.

After about 40min of practice they started their game. No goalies for this league and they did 6 on 6 and then 4 on 4 and 3 on 3. MB had the ringer on her team and he quickly scored the first goal. TB and I were both really surprised to see out right in the middle of the action MB was. She was right in their pushing and kicking and going after the ball.

She scored the 2nd goal and it was her first. Talk about a confidence builder. She was so bumped. I didn’t manage to get any photos but it was too cute to see the kids high fiving each other and really being supportive. Loved it.

The white team (MB’s team) ended up wining 5-0 and she loved it all.

Now TB and I have gotten some more breathable chairs in hopes that will keep the sweat down next weekend….that and hopefully temps below the 100’s.

AZ is a changing us

It dawned on me this morning that Scottsdale is making it’s mark.

Last night I had a thought of MB and I riding down to Starbucks in the morning. She could ride her bike and I could run/walk with her. It is about 2 miles each way…and full of rolling hills. TB thought I was crazy. MB wasn’t so sure. So I said ok we can just drive.

Well this morning around 7am, MB woke me up and asked when we were going on our ride to Starbucks. I asked her if she was sure she wanted to ride her bike, or if she wanted to drive. She said no lets ride, we can take it easy if we need to.

So we got ourselves dressed and off we went. First off, we are up, dressed, and out the door by 7:30? Really..previously I would have been in my PJ’s for at least another hour. But we had to do this early if we didn’t want it to be hot.

The ride was great on the way there. A few times I heard her saying “I think I can, I think I can” as we went up the hills. Every few minutes she would point to a bird, bunny, or other creature on the path. We waved and said good morning to the various bikers and walkers. Happy happy calms we were. Oh I forgot MB had her camelback on and was keeping hydrated.

We ended up skipping Starbucks and hitting up the AJ’s bakery. Fruit salad to share and muffins for us both. We ate outside and enjoyed the morning.

Now the ride back wasn’t all happy. There was a little whining and a little I can’t do this, my legs are so tired. But we pressed on and we made it. She did awesome, I felt great having had my morning workout…and we both had enough fun that she wants to go back next weekend. Plus she added that we could do it one evening for dinner too.

I must admit that riding/running 4 miles first thing in the morning was not my previous norm. I would of never even thought of that as a way to start/spend the weekend. Things are a changing…and I like it. Love it even more that it’s not just me but the whole family!

When it's hot…go where it is hotter

So we had planned a weekend getaway to visit friends. Something we were all looking forward to. MB to make new friends, TB and I to get away from work and home projects and just enjoy the weekend.

It was a hot week for us in Scottsdale 110 degrees most days so in my mind I was looking forward to going to Lake Havasu for some cooler weather. Right, cause Lake means cool doesn’t it? Well in my warped mind it did. That was too Thursday night when TB and I looked at the temps and I saw that it was 10 degrees hotter in Havasu. WHAT??????

Turns out its more in the desert than we are. Whoops.

Oh well…even turning up the heat won’t get this girl down.

We had a great time…bowling, playing in the pool, visiting, and just being. It felt so good not to have anything to do, nowhere to be, and just let the weekend happen.

Now refreshed and ready for the week ahead…well sorta ūüôā

It never fails

It never fails. If something is going to break in the house. Or if something is going to go array. The odds are it will either happen right before or while TB is away. It is just a given.

So it should have been no surprise that this Saturday we notice that the one side of the house says 85 on the thermostat even though it is set to 80. We go outside the unit is running. We click it off. We click it on. You don’t hear a sound. The fan does not run. Ahh great. I should mention it is around 110 each day.

Being a homeowner is so much fun. Just last week I had to put the deposit down on a new motor for our awnings outside. Fortunately in trying to determine if that was under the homeowners¬†insurance¬†(IT WASN”T) I learned how to call in any future claims and A/C was on that last.

So I called in the service ticket and am keeping my fingers crossed that

1) the service guy will come out on Monday. Otherwise I will be moving my office to the master bedroom

2) the issue is something covered by the homeowners insurance. I can just hear it now. Well the A/C unit is all except what is wrong with yours.

3) there will be no other malfunctions this week

4) when I go to clean out the pool everyday this week there won’t be any nasty surprises. (TB you know what I mean…and I am serious I will not be doing that!)

First instinct

Today we opted for a quick lunch at Subway before TB headed to a noon appt and I back home for a 12:30 call.  We had talked about taking 2 cars and then decided TB could drop be off with no trouble. We should have gone with our first instinct.

After enjoying Subway outside and a nice break from our home offices we headed back to the car. Turn the key. Nothing. Turn the key. Nothing. Repeat this a few times and then we give up.

Ok first call Neighbor 1. We are only 1 mile or so from home. No answer. Call Neighbor 2. No Answer.

So we decide to walk home. We make it around the corner it is 119 degrees outside per the car. There is no way I will make it back in time for my call. We try calling taxi companies no luck.

So I go inside the grocery store and the guy at the counter offers to jump the car.  We go back to the car and it is blocked in. So I go into Subway trying to find the car owners. I do and they agree to move their car. Then another group of men come out parked next to us and offer to help to.

About this time my neighbor calls and is headed out to pick me up. The jump has not worked yet.

Then it finally gets enough charge. We are good to go.

I make it back 1 min after 12:30 in time for my call. YES. It was a good call. EVEN BETTER.

TB never stopped the car. He kept it running till I finished and we drove it to the dealer for service.

All worked out and we only lost an hour or so of our busy day…our wallet will fill the dealer visit…but that was inevitable.

Next time we think of taking 2 cars I bet we will….first instinct RULES.

What is on your DVD shelf

So tonight was part 2 of the bedroom TV installation….and a surprise addition, BlueRay player. Since I can count the number of movies that we have watched in the last 6mths on one hand (make that one finger) not sure how much use it will get. But as TB said MB will love it for movie nights. Guess we will be moving movie night to our room ūüôā

I shouldn’t tease…it’s a nice setup and maybe it will give us an excuse to watch more movies. I heard you can download movies straight from netflix so that could lead to more¬†impromptu¬†movie watching. That being said, very soon I will be decreasing my monthly trips to OH (this should be read with much¬†enthusiasm¬†but also some stress as upcoming court dates are still looming) which is where I watch all my chick flix I might find myself with more movie desire too. The one thing we can’t count on is rainy days for movies…but no complaints on that. Just today we had lunch outside in the 110 weather and we both¬†commented¬†on how good the warm air felt…I love being warm. I relate the AZ summer (when in the shade) to be cuddled up in a blanket. Who doesn’t love that.

With MB at her dad’s this month it is so quiet and driving me a little nuts already (its only been 5 days!)…I have some books to read but I have found with the stress of court that I can only keep my attention in a book for so long. So tonight I have turned to TV…thankfully I have a couple old favs that I can set to DVR and will keep me company. So you think you can Dance and Big Brother. So now I will settle in with a glass of wine and my DVR to catch up on some TV. ¬†Hope this will distract me for the night.

Wow I just realized I rambled on and forgot the starting thought of my post (hopefully you have bared with me)…as they were finishing testing the setup of the new TV and Blueray I was asked for a DVD. Hmm…where did we put that box. Oh wait there is a My Little Pony DVD on the counter (a recent gift to MB)…should I be embarrassed as I handed our incredibly talented neighbor (who has a darling boy- but no girl now, well at least for another 6mths) our available DVD selection. I had to laugh…and it was pretty funny to hear them in there testing it all out with some giggling girly soundtrack playing on the movie. So I ask the question if you were asked right now for a DVD what would be in your reach? Something for you or something for your kids? I realize that if it wasn’t My Little Pony it would have been Shrek, Toy Story, or Princess and the Frog. The odds were never in my favor that it would be something adult or cool.

The Heat is on

It¬†official, the Heat is On. Today was the start of “monsoon” season…but no rain. Just hot.

To document the occasion I got my first burn. Nope not a sunburn. Got my body covered with all the  right levels of sunscreen by the way how in 10 years have we gone from 15SPF to 100SPF?

Ok back to my burn. I burned my hand on the garage door. Now here is the interesting part- it wasn’t t ¬†the outside exposed to the intense sun- it was the inside of the door.

I had just collected all the trash around the house and was taking it out for the night. I watched into the sauna, whoops sorry the garage, and open the door. As I go to unlatch the¬†screen-door¬†my thumb gets burned. Hot, hot, hot. Now the screen-door is metal and black and after further investigation I believe the sun hits that latch- but WOW. It was hot, but I didn’t realize it would leave a mark. It did.

As I walked to the mailbox, enduring the 105 degrees, getting a little sticky – enough to make me think maybe I would get in the pool and scrub the tiles tonight. Just an excuse to cool off from my 15min walk outside. As I am walking back I notice my the big red spot on my thumb. Yep- my first burn. The first of many I imagine. Have decided the pool can wait till tomorrow- after a good hard run. That is if my bum ankle and burned thumb don’t keep me down…is it just Tuesday??? At this rate, with an incident a day, I might want to re-think the Grand Canyon hike.

Is the heat on?

Ok so it is week one of our first summer in Scottsdale. I am learning a few new things each day.

Like today I hear the A/C go on and then feel heat and smell what I think is the furnace. I go running to the thermostat, is the heat on? Nope. Ok maybe it was a fluke. Then it happens a couple more times during the day.

I finally go into Todd and say is something wrong with our A/C- why does it feel like the heat is going on. Do you feel that?¬†Fortunately¬†he does so I am not going nuts. Turns out when it’s over 100 outside the ducts and pipes can get a little warm so when the A/C goes on it has to pump all that hot air out before the cool air gets going. Makes sense doesn’t it.

Fortunately it only lasts for a minute or so, but it still catches me off guard each time the A/C kicks on.

Now on to getting my bum burned by the hot seat after leaving the car out in the sun for the afternoon…my neighbors are warning me of all the “hot” things to watch out for, but I am sure I will be learning by example this summer.
